So Long, PSP Comics

So Long, PSP Comics

None

Today’s update to the Digital Comics store for the PSP will unfortunately be the last one. With the PS Vita on the horizon, Sony is putting an end to the now eighteen-month-old service that let comic geeks get their fix directly from their handheld gaming platform. The service will still be available, but will no longer be updated, forcing comic fans to simply re-read their favorites.

The PSP Digital Comics store hosted over 4,000 titles from publishers such as Marvel, DC, Devil’s Due, IDW, and more. In addition, Sony has said that the Digital Comics Team isn’t going anywhere. A Sony representative said “The Digital Comics Team will continue to work on bringing the comic service to other Sony devices.”

Of course this means the rumor mill has started up again, this time assuming that a comic store will become available on the PlayStation Vita. Sony hasn’t confirmed this, but it sure would be awesome. HD OLED screen + touch controls = comic book reader’s dream.
