Sony made a presentation to investors during their 2009 Media / Investor Conference, picked up on by Gamasutra, identifying 3D stereoscopic technology as a comprehensive solution for bringing profitability to the entirety of their entertainment devices line. Sony plans to “Lead the 3D market through Sony’s end-to-end solution”. In other words, they have a three-tiered solution for getting 3D technology into the hands of consumers: create, distribute, and display. From now on, expect all Sony entertainment products to include 3D stereoscopic support: Blu-ray players, gaming products (software and hardware), televisions, projectors, etc. Thankfully, you won’t have to pick up a new 3D-compatible PS3, as “All PS3 units will be firmware-upgradeable to 3D.”  |
