According to Capcom’s corporate offices in Japan, Street Fighter IV has shipped over 2 million copies worldwide.

The PR team at Capcom has hinted that first week North American sales have been “unbelievable.” Backing their claim up by stating: “J ust wait until you see the figures in NPD next month!”

Also, Zak Bennett, the “UK’s premier Street Fighter player “ set a new Guinness World Record by dispatching 108 challengers in a row without being beaten in just four hours.

The record was set in London on Friday afternoon. Interestingly, Bennett’s first attempt to set the record was foiled by Hatim Habashi after just 28 consecutive wins. However, Zak didn’t slip up on the second attempt and set the record.

Press release detailing the event to follow.

Press Release:

February 23, 2009 – Guinness World Records confirmed today that UK’s premier Street Fighter player Zak Bennett has broken into the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition for the most consecutive wins on Street Fighter™ IV – with a whopping 108 wins unbeaten.

The successful record attempt took place in London on Friday afternoon. Official Guinness World Records representatives were present to adjudicate the feat, which is now shortlisted for inclusion in next year’s Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition.

Challenger Hatim Habashi beat Bennett after 28 consecutive wins, but in his second record attempt Bennett raised his game and managed to defeat 108 challengers in succession.

Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records, Craig Glenday, said: “We congratulate Zak on his extraordinary achievement and welcome him into the Guinness World Records family. It’s always great to see gamers showcase their talent while making a mark in the record books.”

Street Fighter IV brings the legendary fighting series back to its roots by taking the beloved fighting moves and techniques of the original Street Fighter™ II and infusing them with Capcom’s latest advancements in next generation technology to create a truly extraordinary experience that will re-introduce the world to the time-honoured art of virtual martial arts.
