The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages – All Heart Pieces and Container Locations

In comparison to other games in the Zelda series, both of the Oracle titles have relatively few Pieces of Heart to collect. Players begin with their standard 3 Heart Containers that have been the starting HP for every game in the series since the original Legend of Zelda and quickly acquire Heart Containers from completing the game’s dungeons. However, when it comes to acquiring all heart pieces in Oracle of Ages, players only have 12 of them to collect throughout all of Labrynna. Oracle of Ages opts to have Link’s maximum health be 14 Heart containers rather than the typical 20 from A Link to the Past or Ocarina of Time.

Still, 14 Heart Containers is plenty of health for even the greatest of Oracle of Ages‘ challenges and the Pieces of Heart themselves are fairly easy to collect. Most of them involve traveling back and forth between the past and the present and using any number of equipment items from Ages‘ unique arsenal. In addition to the 12 Pieces of Heart that players can find in the game’s world, Link will obtain a Heart Container for each of the 8 dungeons he completes to bring his starting 3 Heart Containers up to their maximum.

Piece of Heart #1

Location: Outside the Black Tower; Past
Conditions: Have the Shovel
How to Get: Once Link acquires the Shovel from within the Black Tower, head outside and to the right of the entrance to spot a diggable patch of dirt. Using the Shovel here will reveal the first Piece of Heart.

Piece of Heart #2

Location: Maku Road; Past
Conditions: N/A
How to Get: Maku Road is the first mini-dungeon players will enter before starting Oracle of Ages‘ adventure properly. Within Maku Road in the past is the second Piece of Heart. Players should easily spot the heart piece’s location upon entering the room and just need to push some blocks to access it.

Piece of Heart #3

Location: Yoll Graveyard; Present
Conditions: Have the Power Bracelet
How to Get: Once Link completes the game’s first dungeon, the Spirit’s Grave, head to the spot where Link met some children earlier and then down one more screen. Lift the rock here to unearth the next Piece of Heart.

Piece of Heart #4

Location: Deku Forest; Past
Conditions: Have Ember Seeds
How to Get: After completing the Wing Dungeon, head left two screens from the entrance and then down one screen. Use an Ember Seed here to burn away the conspicuous tree blocking Link’s path and head down the stairs. The Piece of Heart is on a platform to the right.

Piece of Heart #5

Location: Restoration Wall; Past
Conditions: Have Roc’s Feather and Power Bracelet
How to Get: From the Ember Tree in Lynna Village, go north one screen and then continue west for 5 more screens. From here, head north another two screens to spot a cave entrance. After entering the cave, use both Roc’s Feather and the Power Bracelet to have Link work his way toward the Piece of Heart in the corner.

Piece of Heart #6

Location: Symmetry Village Outskirts
Conditions: Play the Tune of Currents on the Harp of Ages
How to Get: Once Link learns the Tune of Currents, visit Symmetry Village in the Past. From the house at the center of the village go west one screen, south one screen, west one screen, north one screen, and then finally head west for one more screen. Position Link in the bottom left corner of this screen and play the Tune of Currents to return to the Present, then head right to collect the Piece of Heart.

Piece of Heart #7

Location: Lynna Village
Conditions: Play the Tune of Currents on the Harp of Ages, Have 500 Rupees
How to Get: After learning the Tune of Currents, visit Lynna Village in the Past and head to the Ember Tree. From here, head north one screen and then position Link in front of the westernmost tree. Play the Tune of Currents to return to the Present, where Link will appear inside the gate surrounding the Lynna Village shop. Go inside and head down the stairs to buy the next Piece of Heart for 500 Rupees.

Piece of Heart #8

Location: Rolling Ridge; Present
Conditions: Have Bombs
How to Get: Head to the spot near the Crown Dungeon where Link saves the Goron Elder. Jump down off the cliff here and then head south one screen. Following this, head west two more screens and spot a cave entrance. After entering the cave, use a Bomb on the crack in the wall to the south of where the Goron is standing to reveal a hidden chamber containing a Piece of Heart.

Location: Rolling Ridge
Conditions: Play the Tune of Currents on the Harp of Ages
How to Get: Using the Tune of Currents, head to the Past and make way toward Mermaid’s Cave. After heading west one screen and then north on the next screen, Link will wind up outside a cave. Enter the cave and take the only exit, heading east after leaving the cave’s confines. Position Link in the upper-right corner of the screen here and playt the Tune of Currents to return to the Present. Link is now in a previously inaccessible area and can claim the Piece of Heart here.

Piece of Heart #10

Location: Crescent Island; Present
Conditions: Have the Mermaid Suit
How to Get: Once Link has the Mermaid Suit, head to the spot where Link first meets Dimitri on Crescent Island. Swim north one screen and then east two screens, entering the only available passage here and continuing to head south. From here, swim west one screen, south one screen, west one screen, and then finally head north two screens. Enter the cave here and open the treasure chest to claim the next Piece of Heart.

Piece of Heart #11

Location: Varies (Requires running into Maple)
Conditions: Run into Maple on the overworld map
How to Get: Having Maple’s Ring makes collecting this Piece of Heart much easier, as it’s completely random what items Maple will drop after Link defeats enough enemies for her to show up and bumps into her. Maple’s Ring will halve the amount of necessary enemies to defeat, allowing players to repeatedly try and acquire this Piece of Heart. Once Maple appears, purposefully run into her with Link and rush to pick up any items she drops. If Link isn’t quick enough, Maple will snatch up the Piece of Heart before he can get to it.

Piece of Heart #12

Location: Varies (Requires loose soil for planting a Gasha Seed)
Conditions: Have and plant a Gasha Seed
How to Get: Obtaining this Piece of Heart can also be somewhat random as it requires Link to plant a Gasha Seed in the Past and then return to the same spot in the Present to open the Gasha Nut and loot its contents. Planting Gasha Seeds in harder-to-reach locations tends to result in the Gasha Nuts that grow there containing rare items, including a Piece of Heart. Simply seek out all the loose soil where Link can plant Gasha Seeds, eventually the Gasha Nut that grows will contain this particular heart piece from Oracle of Ages.
