Xbox One Controller Adapter Now Working with Windows 7, 8.1

Xbox One Controller Adapter Now Working with Windows 7, 8.1

When it comes to console wars, I tend to stay pretty neutral. Mainly because I love video games; they mean a lot to me, and that means that console exclusives across the board appeal to me on whatever platform they may appear. With no zealous loyalty for this company or that one (if anything, I lean toward Nintendo fanboydom), I openly acknowledge the strengths and weaknesses of all the modern consoles. I’m playing this generation on a PlayStation 4 and a Wii U, but I’ll admit that when it comes to controllers, the Xbox One blows the competition away. Ergonomically there’s just no comparison; the analogue stick placement and button placement are perfect, the triggers pull so smoothly, and the Elite Controller allows for never-before-seen levels of customization.

If you’re a PC gamer, you can have the best of both worlds by purchasing an Xbox One Wireless controller adapter. This puppy plugs into your USB port to allow up to 8 Xbox One controllers to connect to your beefy gaming PC. The only catch is that, until now, the adapter was only compatible with PCs running Windows 10. Many of you have yet to make the jump to Windows 10, and so were left to revert back to your Xbox 360 controller for certain games. Rejoice! Yesterday Major Nelson tweeted that the Xbox One controller adapter now works with Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, bringing the best controller in the world to PC gamers everywhere. This was a smart move, especially after the unexpected success of the Xbox One Elite Controller. I’m still waiting for Windows ME support.
