You Don’t Have to Kill Anyone in Vampyr

Developer Dontnod, best known for excellent puzzle/adventure/slice-of-life meets sci-fi drama Life is Strange , has some interesting stuff to say about its next game, Vampyr . For example, you don’t actually have to kill anyone. A game where you’re a vampire and can win without killing? That sounds crazy.

Vampyr , a pseudo action-rpg that somewhat resembles Bloodborne if you want a point of reference, is a very dark, very violent-looking game. But, says Dontnod, players who are more into storytelling can complete the game without our hero, Dr. Jonathan Reid, committing a single act of murder.

Phillipe Moreau, Vampyr’ s director, confirmed the game has four distinct endings. Which ending the player ends up with naturally is based on various moral choices presented throughout the story. Moreau said, “We have four endings, including one if you manage to finish the game without killing anyone. Trust me, that’s a very hard challenge.”

Thus continues the idea that violence in games is the easy way out, and taking the moral high ground is not only thinking outside the box, but a true challenge for gamers. Food for thought.
