Assassin’s Creed Copyright Infringement Lawsuit Dropped

None

John Beiswenger, author of Link , has been involved in a copyright infringement lawsuit against Ubisoft. According to Beiswenger, Ubisoft had access to his novels and has been using his ideas in their Assassin’s Creed games since the series first began.

However, Beiswenger has recently dropped the lawsuit against Ubsioft, apparently because he simply doesn’t have the money to take them to court. “Regrettably, the resources required to defend those rights are unavailable to many individual creators. As a result, rampant infringement is occurring with impunity,” Beiswenger said.

In addition, he has filed his dismissal “without prejudice,” which means that he can pick up the claims and the case in the future should he ever gain the resources needed for an extended legal battle. Beiswenger was seeking $5.25 million dollars in damages and a potential discontinuation of all Assassin’s Creed titles.

At this point the negative press Beiswenger is getting from the lawsuit may significantly outweigh any profits he might get from continuing his course of action. For more evidence of this, see the relentless Amazon review bombing his novel has been receiving.
