Azeroth Comes To Minecraft

Azeroth Comes To Minecraft

None

As if World of Warcraft and Minecraft weren’t already nerdy enough on their own, one Minecraft player has managed to crank up the volume on this nerdiness.

Over the last few weeks, a Minecraft user known as Rumsey has been working to create a 1-to-1 ratio model of the entire World of Warcraft universe inside of Minecraft. “My pet project has been to recreate a full-scale version of World of Warcraft inside Minecraft,” he said. “The creation of the world is largely automated by custom software which I’ve been developing over the last few weeks.”

However, even with his custom software, recreating Azeroth hasn’t been easy. Rumsey has been trying to stay true to Minecraft’s “1 yard to 1 block” ratio, but the game has a height limit of 128 blocks: “Many zones exceed 128 blocks,” he said, “so I’ve needed to use mods to increase the height limit.”

So far, Rumsey’s results are pretty impressive. He’s completed Kalimdor, including any zones from the recent Cataclysm expansion, and he’s gearing up to polish of the remaining areas, including any instances and dungeons.
