Conker’s Bad Fur Day Cheats & Cheat Codes for Nintendo 64

Conker’s Bad Fur Day is a 2001 3D platformer developed and published by Rare for the Nintendo 64. Other platformer games released around this time like Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot are aimed toward a younger audience, but Conker’s Bad Fur Day subverted all expectations by featuring massive amounts of adult humor that made it unsuitable for children. It instantly gained cult status among gamers, who retain hope it will make a return one day.

The gameplay in Conker’s Bad Fur Day is standard platformer fare. You jump over obstacles, fight easy enemies, and solve simple puzzles across a series of linear levels. At this point, the gameplay shows its age. The story itself is threadbare, with Conker just wanting to find his girlfriend being the core of the game’s plot. So what is it that makes so many players love Conker’s Bad Fur Day?

Where Conker’s Bad Fur Day stands out is its humor. The game embraces vulgar humor, with frequent pop culture references and fourth wall breaks. Alongside the constant profanity, alcohol use, and graphic violence, it creates a massive juxtaposition from what players have come to expect from 3D platformers. It certainly isn’t for everyone, but Conker’s Bad Fur Day is a title all gamers must try. Even today, platformers are predominantly aimed at younger audiences, so it’s interesting to see a game try and do it differently.

In such a bizarre game, it’s only natural that you’ll encounter an odd cast of characters. Conker is frequently annoyed by a variety of minor characters, but they aren’t the ones crucial to the story. Here are the main characters of Conker’s Bad Fur Day:

  • Conker: On the surface, Conker looks like the ideal 3D platformer protagonist. Dig a little deeper, and you’ll find this vulgar squirrel is actually a deeply-bitter alcoholic. You follow Conker as he accidentally becomes King of the Panther Kingdom, when all he really wants to do is find his girlfriend, Berri.
  • Berri: Berri’s main role is as Conker’s girlfriend. Early in the game, the chipmunk is kidnapped by Don Weaso, prompting Conker along his adventure. She spends a lot of the game in great peril, with Conker struggling to keep her alive throughout.
  • The Panther King: The Panther King is the main antagonist of Conker’s Bad Fur Day. He gives the instruction for Don Weaso to kidnap Berri, as he wants to trap Conker and kill him. The Panther King is eventually betrayed by Professor Von Kriplespac, who releases a Xenomorph from his stomach, killing him instantly.
  • Don Weaso: Don Weaso is a minion for the Panther King, doing his dirty work. Early in the game, he seems to be an ally to Conker, but his true intentions are revealed when he kidnaps Berri. He appears in the final battle of the game, where it is implied he is sucked into space alongside Professor Von Kriplespac, the remains of the Panther King, and Berri.

Despite Conker’s Bad Fur Day becoming an instant cult classic, Rare never capitalized on its success. Banjo Kazooie aside, the studio has never been one for long-running franchises, instead prioritizing unique experiences that burn bright and fast. Conker’s Bad Fur Day is the perfect example of that ethos, with Conker: Live and Reloaded being an Xbox remake of the original, and an appearance in the 2015 Rare Replay collection. The first game in the franchise, Conker’s Pocket Tales, was released in 1999 but lacked many of the darker themes that made Conker’s Bad Fur Day so iconic, and many players struggle to see it as part of the same franchise.

With Rare currently occupied by Everwild and the ongoing Sea of Thieves expansions, it’s unknown if we’ll ever see Conker again. As gaming continues to span across multiple generations, it could be the perfect time for the return of our foul-mouthed furry friend.

Why Are There So Many Conker’s Bad Fur Day Cheat Codes?

It was standard at the time to have cheat codes in games. While Conker’s Bad Fur Day wasn’t exactly known for following the crowd, it made sense as they had a functional use. Back then, most games would have one save slot per file, and it was all too easy to accidentally delete it and lose all of your progress.

You’ll notice that a lot of the Conker’s Bad Fur Day cheat codes simply unlock levels later in the game. If a save was accidentally deleted, it was then easier for gamers to regain any lost progress. As with everything in Conker’s Bad Fur Day, there’s a method to the madness.

Do These Conker’s Bad Fur Day Cheat Codes Work In Rare Replay?

Yes, all of the Conker’s Bad Fur Day cheat codes work just the same if you’re playing via Rare Replay. There’s even an achievement worth 30 gamerscore titled ‘Easy’ Does It for using a cheat code, so it’s worth doing!

Do These Conker’s Bad Fur Day Cheat Codes Work In Conker: Live and Reloaded?

Despite Conker: Live and Reloaded being a remake of the original game, these cheat codes don’t work here. It’s unknown why Rare made the decision to remove them, especially as the studio re-added them for Rare Replay. The Fire Imp and the Cock ‘N Plucker remain unchanged, so there was definitely room for the cheats to appear.

Unfortunately, Conker: Live and Reloaded doesn’t feature its own set of cheat codes for players to enter either, so you’ve got to play legitimately in the remake.
