Konami’s LA Studio Officially Closed

Konami’s LA Studio Officially Closed

It was a good, 2-year run. That’s how long Konami Los Angeles Studio was up and running before certain solids hit the fan. The studio was formerly known as Kojima Productions Los Angeles before Konami decided that pachinko machines are the way of the future and sent Hideo Kojima on vacation. Where did he go, by the way? In my mind I see Kojima, stone-faced and wearing Mickey Mouse ears, peeling around a sharp turn on a rollercoaster as a single tear rolls down his cheek.

Apparently, much of the Konami LA staff packed up and left when the beef between Konami and Kojima Productions started going public, so I don’t think anyone was taken by surprise. In a statement emailed to Polygon Konami confirmed the closure, saying: “Konami has made the decision to close its Los Angeles Studio, effective immediately, due to the product development resources being restructured into a more centralized unit. This facility contributed to the recent Metal Gear Solid games. Konami will continue its operations to support all Metal Gear Solid titles, including the recently launched Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Online . Metal Gear Online is still scheduled to release for PC Steam in January 2016.”
