Meet Pokken Tournament’s Shadow Mewtwo in New Trailer

Meet Pokken Tournament’s Shadow Mewtwo in New Trailer

Over the weekend, footage of the Pokemon arcade fighter, Pokken Tournament, appeared revealing a new boss that had been patched into the game. What more or less appeared to be a crystal infused, dark version of Mega Mewtwo X was affectionately named Dark Mewtwo by fans. Now, thanks to a recently released official trailer, we know the proper name of the creature. Apparently, it’s called Shadow Mewtwo, which is technically different from Dark Mewtwo, I guess. So… close but no cigar, presumptuous fans.

The trailer also introduces a new fighter to the series in the form of an adorably adorned Pikachu, outfitted in a luchador costume. Called Pikachu Libre, this fighter uses wrestling inspired moves and is reminiscent of one of the costumes available to the Cosplay Pikachu from last year’s Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

The game is certainly shaping up to be a unique Pokemon experience, with an emphasis on response time in gameplay as opposed to the usual turn-based fare we’ve grown accustomed to. The cinematic flare to the moves should also excite fans, and new fans could migrate over to the franchise from the hardcore fighting game camp. We’ll just have to wait until the game’s international Wii U release in early 2016 to see how Pokken Tournament performs as a Pokemon game.
