Ono’s Health: SF Producer Steps Down

Ono’s Health: SF Producer Steps Down

None

Yoshinori Ono, since the announcement and release of Street Fighter IV, has been the public face of Capcom’s flagship fighting franchise and its various spin-offs, including the recent cross-publisher mash-up, Street Fighter X Tekken. Known for his over-the-top antics and jovial style, Ono has long served to humanize Capcom, providing a welcoming and convivial presence that the publisher certainly needs.

Late last week, however, after a Street Fighter X Tekken event in South Korea, Ono collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. The public was quickly assured that it didn’t appear to be anything serious, and Ono has returned to Twitter today, but in part to announce that, for the foreseeable future, he will be taking a leave of absence from his role as producer, during which he will concentrate on his health.

This story, though, is not without an additional silver lining: Ono’s tweet indicates that he will be using this time away in part to think “about the new future of fighting games after this.” We wish Yoshinori Ono a relaxing sabbatical, and are excited to see what innovations he’ll bring to the table when he returns.
