PSN Hack Examined

PSN Hack Examined

None

Several groups are upset at Sony’s response to the hacking that occurred last week and exposed millions of users’ private data. Among them are the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (which is a government-run consumer watchdog group) and the office of US Senator Richard Blumenthal.

Though both groups have yet to formally file anything against Sony, they both have similar complaints about how Sony handled the crisis. Not alerting consumers the moment something was wrong is at the top of their list (though Sony maintains they only found out 24 hours prior to the press release), and they are concerned why stronger security measures weren’t put in place to prevent the hack.

Although it’s unlikely any official measures will be taken against Sony, it is interesting that so many national organizations are probing the matter. Hopefully everyone can work together to find a solution that keeps customers safer the next time a hacker tries to intercept the network.
