Though Anonymous denies any involvement in the hacking of both the PlayStation Network and Sony Online Entertainment, Sony has provided some compelling evidence that the “hacktivist” group is indeed behind the malicious attacks that occurred in April.  However, Anonymous has been distancing themselves from the proceedings, and has flooded their personal communication channels with talk about how they weren’t involved. Because much of the Anonymous community is made up of Internet-savvy gamers, alienating your core base by taking down a huge gaming network (and exposing the private information of every single user) is not exactly a step in the right direction. Guilty or not, Anonymous has a serious PR problem on their hands, for sure. |
