A bit of recently-surfaced promotional paraphernalia suggests that Battlefield 4 will usher in the return of Commander Mode, as well as the option to play as one of three factions: US, Russia, or China.
The infamous posters first made their appearance on the Battlefield forums after popping up in some local GameStop locations. Shortly after the forums exploded, an EA spokesperson attempted to contain the uproar, saying “These documents are not official Battlefield 4 marketing materials.” What EA did not say, however, is that Commander won’t be making a return, nor have they commented on the alleged factions.
The top-down playstyle of Commander was wildly popular among Battlefield players, and would fit perfectly with the total war mentality that the fourth game is advocating. So, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it make a comeback, but EA hasn’t confirmed anything just yet.
Are these posters the result of some overly creative fans (and easily deceived GameStop employees), or will BF4 turn the franchise in a fresh direction?
We’ve got our fingers crossed that it’s the latter.
