Sony to Slim Down PS3 Chips

Sony to Slim Down PS3 Chips

None

Sony Europe boss David Reeves told The Guardian, as picked up by IGN, that the manufacturing of 65 nanometer chips will be dropped in favor of 45 nanometer chips.

This change will reduce production costs for Sony and is promised to reduce heat through greater energy efficiency. It is projected that such reductions in production costs could pave the way to future price cuts. However, don’t expect a new price point anytime soon.

According to David Reeves, “We’re always looking at ways to reduce costs; replacing the current 65 nanometre cell chip with a 45 nanometre one probably in middle of year.”
