Writer Says Age of Apocalypse Could Be “Bigger” Than Days of Future Past

With the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past just around the corner (dealing with an assassination plot and time travel), Brian Singer and others have already turned their attentions to the next big film on the horizon.

Writer Simon Kinberg hinted during a recent interview that the sheer scope of Age could possibly eclipse that of the current film (set for release May 23 rd ). While Days of Future Past is certainly the most epic of any X-Men film to date, regarding Age he says “From a visual standpoint it actually may be a bigger movie than Days of Future Past because there’ll be disaster movie imagery. Like the title would imply.”

Age of Apocalypse deals with a super mutant (the film’s name-sake) who will attempt to do what Magneto only dreamed: allow his kind to become the ruling class. However, Apocalypse achieves this goals via more genocidal methods in the comics (wiping out humans and mutants alike), which creates an alternate timeline from the original cannon. When asked if we’ll see the events of Days of Future Past set up something like this in theaters, Director Bryan Singer ambiguously states, “The movie won’t necessarily create an alternate universe. But there may be some swapping things that I’m playing with.”

Fans of the Age series shouldn’t get too excited just yet; as Singer does confirm the conclusion of Future Past won’t directly set up the next movie (but will plant the seeds).
