Xbox One DVR Needs External HDD

Xbox One DVR Needs External HDD

Do you use your Xbox One as a media center? You were probably pretty excited about Microsoft’s digital video recording plans for the system, then. There’s just one tiny thing you have to worry about, and that’s space. You can’t use the Xbox One as a DVR unless you have an external hard drive hooked up to it.

The Xbox One DVR plans seem promising, especially considering they can be activated via Windows 10 apps or Smartglass when you aren’t in front of your console, recorded shows can be transferred over the home network to a Windows 10 tablet, and you may be able to record at up to 1080i. However, the need to keep media and games separate necessitate an additional external HDD. As long as you have one plugged into the system, there’ll be no problems using the feature.

Microsoft doesn’t have an exact date for the Xbox DVR functionality. Given the low prices on external hard drives these days, people should have no trouble finding an affordable device to facilitate recording.
