Call of Duty: Elite – All You Need To Know

Tournaments and Prizes (Premium Only)

Premium members will have access to one extremely interesting new multiplayer pastime: daily tournaments. Elite’s staff members will be holding at least one tournament per day. Some of these will be for pro-level players, and some will be for newcomers, but all of them will have some sort of prize. In-game content will probably be the most common reward, but Hirshberg assured Call of Duty XP attendees that major prizes like Jeeps and vacations would not be uncommon.

Did I mention that they’ll be judged by a real-life referee? Well, they will, which is amazing.

A Waterfall of Downloadable Content (Premium Only):

This component alone makes the purchase price for Call of Duty: Elite worthwhile. In his keynote, Hirshberg assured fans that with a one-year subscription to CoD: Premium Elite, players will receive every single piece of DLC available over the following year. For MW3, this adds up to 20 pieces of content, including map packs, new modes, and spec ops missions. Typically, the price for a year’s worth of DLC totals about $60, but CoD: Elite Premium is priced at a lean $49.99.

All of this content will be delivered over the course of the 9-month DLC season, and Elite subscribers will have access to it long before non-subscribers. So even if you don’t plan on using any of the other options, you’ll save 10 bucks on DLC. With that money, you could pick up dinner at Wendy’s and still have enough left over for the bus ride home.

Elite TV (Premium Only):

This is the feature that seems a little bit fanciful to me.

Elite TV promises episodic video content only available to Premium Elite members. Some the content will be in the form of tips and tricks by pro-level CoD players and developers. But some of the content will be entertainment videos produced by the likes of Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and more.

I’m a little concerned that they’re not going to be able to keep this arm of the CoD: Elite package alive. Developers have made this type of promise in the past, and the execution has always left something to be desired. If they are able to keep it up, this would be put CoD in a class of it’s own, but I’m not holding my breath.

Call of Duty: Elite - All You Need To Know

At the very least, Call of Duty: Elite will be an interesting experiment. Are players willing to pay an additional $49.99 on top of the purchase price of MW3 in order to receive a few extra perks? I’m not sure. However, Eric Hirshberg also mentioned that anyone who happens to pick up the Hardened Edition of MW3 will receive a year’s subscription to Call of Duty: Elite. Most retailers are planning to put a $99 price tag on the Hardened Edition, but I’ve seen a few who are gearing up to sell it for $89.

That’s another trip to Wendy’s and bus ride home. Now you owe me $20.
