Hacking Community Comes Full Circle; Outs Itself

Hacking Community Comes Full Circle; Outs Itself

None

It must be tough to be a hacker. Sure, there’s the thrill of releasing people’s personal information and bringing down big, bad companies for minutes at a time, but there are some drawbacks too. For instance, you can’t trust any of your peers. Hacking groups like LulzSec, Anonymous, and countless other splinter groups have been hacking away at gaming-related sites and services for weeks now, and have been living together in relative harmony.

Until today.

Apparently, two hackers who knew the identity of several members of the LulzSec group were threatening to expose them to the FBI. LulzSec turned the tables in short order and gave the names of these hackers to the authorities along with evidence of their illegal activities. Although this worked out rather poorly for the hackers, it could be a big break in the case against the hacking community as a whole, since the arrested individuals will probably rat on their friends to escape longer jail time. And if we can get these dangerous cyber criminals out of the computer chair and behind bars, the Internet just may be a safe place to game again. Wouldn’t that be nice?
