Minecraft Preps Itself For Adventure

Minecraft Preps Itself For Adventure

Notch has revealed that, come Minecraft 1.7, the title’s long-promised “Adventure Update” will finally be released. What is this “Adventure Update” and why is it so exciting?

The update will introduce a third gameplay mode, in addition to the existing Creative and Survival. Adventure mode, as it is called, will disable one’s ability to place or destroy blocks, forcing one to subsist within their Minecraft map as it is, making it, by far, the most traditionally game-like mode in the title.

Notch states that players will be able to create maps in either the Creative or Survival modes that they, and others, can then import into the Adventure mode as a kind of “challenge map,” which opens up a more goal-oriented gameplay style for the currently very free-form Minecraft.

Though the basic outline of this mode is now palpable, Notch is remaining stingy with its details, stating that he wants players to get some surprises out of it when it releases.
