Nintendo Hasn’t Forgotten About The DSi

None

Even if you’ve forgotten the DSi, Nintendo certainly hasn’t neglected its last-generation handheld. The DS and its ilk, after all, helped the company dominate its first serious competition for the handheld market in generations with a slew of original and compelling titles. With the 3DS out the gate, though, and the 3DS XL soon to follow, Nintendo is not-so-quietly turning its attention back to the DSi for a moment, readying a pair of new colors for the American market.

Matte Red and Matte Blue, in their solid primary hues, are quite striking and attractive. They’re also slated to hit retail “as early as this week.”

Why now? Why America? Why not? We’re currently in the throes of Olympic fever and, hey, aren’t red and blue Mario and Sonic’s respective colors? Isn’t there a Mario & Sonic game for the London 2012 Olympics? Why yes, yes there is! Perhaps there’s a connection of some sort.
