Nintendo Trademarks Galore; 3DS Might Actually Be Official Name

None

Nintendo recently filed for a slew of trademark protections for both the DS and 3DS.

The folks over at Silicon Era spotted the new entries in the Japanese trademark database.  These new listings include: DS Sound, DS Name Card, DS Magazine, DSMovie, DSCamera, DSCinema, DSMessage, DSMusic, and DSAlbum.  All of these seem to be potential services which may or may not see the light of day.

Also, and perhaps more importantly, four other trademarks were filed by Nintendo including Nintendo 3DS, N3DS, 3DSPlay, and 3DSWare.  Is this a sign that Nintendo has decided to use the 3DS moniker?

While companies often file trademarks simply for protection and never actually use them, the extennsive way in which Nintendo has trademarked the 3DS name seems to point to true branding.
