Pokemon Scarlet DLC: A Full Review of New Quests and Pokemon

At release, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were criticized for their bugs, glitches, and performance. However, since its release, Game Freak has been working hard to fix the games and make them an enjoyable experience. Throughout its first year, the games received updates that gave fans the experience they wanted. During that time, they also released the first part of a two-part expansion pass. Today, we will examine that DLC and see if it’s right for you so you’ll know if it’s worth purchasing.

Pokemon Scarlet Summary

Game Freak developed and released the newest Pokemon game, Pokemon Scarlet, in 2022. The title introduced players to the ninth Generation of Pokemon and received praise for its storyline. Players follow three story routes that pit them against eight Gym Leaders, defeat five Titan Pokemon, and take down the Star Team. Scarlet has version-exclusive Pokemon and Pokemon GO compatibility like previous games in the series.

Pokemon Scarlet DLC

The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero is a two-part DLC for Pokemon Scarlet/Violet. The pack can be bought on the Nintendo Store for $34.99. The first part, The Teal Mask, released in September 2023, while the second part, The Indigo Disk, will come in the Winter of 2023. Players will receive both parts when purchasing the The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero.

The Teal Mask follows the players as they travel on a school trip to Blueberry Academy. Ms. Briar will supervise them there and have a new town, Mossui Town, as their home base. The academy is located in Kitakami, a new area located to the east.

Upon arriving, players meet Carmine and Kieran, two students at the academy. The plot follows the unraveling of a mysterious folk legend that tells the tale of three legendary Pokemon. These Pokemon helped save the land of Kitakami from evil and returned with the help of a strange mask.

The The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC Checklist

While the main drawing point of the DLC is the story, there are some additional features like minigames and new Pokemon included.

  • Ogre Oustin’ – This mini-game has players pop balloons to collect berries. This can be played in multiplayer, with the highest score winning at the end.
  • Perrin – A new photographer has players participate in camera mini-games, taking photos of Pokemon in the new area, The Timeless Woods.

Pokémon Scarlet: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero

Is The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC Worth the Money?

Yes, the DLC is worth it for Pokemon Scarlet/Violet fans. The story and adventure are fun, and it’s only the first part. The new and returning Pokemon are a blast to us, and Kitakami is such a unique location that it makes the DLC worth it on its own. The expansion is necessary if you want to continue playing Scarlet/Violet after beating the base game.

As mentioned, the second part, The Indigo Disk, gets set up at the end of The Teal Mask. If you play part one now, you’ll finish before part two comes out, adding even more content. While it’s hard to say if the story is better than the base game, having more Pokemon to catch and play with is always a bonus.

The second part, coming in the Winter of 2023, will add over 200 Pokemon to Scarlet/Violet. These Pokemon from previous games in the series help expand the Switch title to one of the largest games in the franchise.
