According to a Skype press release issued this morning, the Vita will have full Skype functionality starting today. The app will be available to download from the PlayStation Store as soon as it updates. Users will be able to tie their Skype account to their Vita system and enjoy free Skype calls. The app will work over Wi-Fi and on the Vita’s 3G network. The Skype app not only allows free Skype-to-Skype calling, but also Skype video. Users will be able to use both the Vita’s front and rear cameras during a voice call. The Skype app runs in the background while you are using the Vita. 
Users will also be able to hook up any Skype-certified headset to the Vita without compatibility problems. The app will be controlled both with the face buttons and the PS Vita’s touchscreen.
