The PS Vita Gets Skype Voice And Video Today

None

According to a Skype press release issued this morning, the Vita will have full Skype functionality starting today. The app will be available to download from the PlayStation Store as soon as it updates. Users will be able to tie their Skype account to their Vita system and enjoy free Skype calls. The app will work over Wi-Fi and on the Vita’s 3G network.

The Skype app not only allows free Skype-to-Skype calling, but also Skype video. Users will be able to use both the Vita’s front and rear cameras during a voice call. The Skype app runs in the background while you are using the Vita.

Should you receive a Skype call while you are playing, you will be able to pause the game, take the call, and then resume playing without affecting your game progress.

Users will also be able to hook up any Skype-certified headset to the Vita without compatibility problems. The app will be controlled both with the face buttons and the PS Vita’s touchscreen. As always, Skype users will also be able to call landlines and cell phones by purchasing Skype credit.
