Watch Out for the Overwatch Beta on October 27

Get ready to start checking your watch, because Overwatch is coming soon. At least, it is if you logged into your Battle.net account and opted into the Overwatch closed beta. Blizzard wants to start testing for its team-based, multiplayer shooter, and all who take the time to sign up may have a chance at being welcomed into it.

The goal of this Overwatch beta, and really all forthcoming tests of the game in general, is to ensure a solid final project. Part of it is a stress test to make sure the servers and engine can handle the load. But of course they also have to check and see if it’s actually a fun and well-balanced game. The closed beta will do that, as well the eventual beta test weekends.

The Overwatch closed beta is for North American residents only. However, the beta test weekends will be for much larger audiences so people can throw everything they’ve got at Blizzard’s servers. These will be for all regions, with the first one announced after BlizzCon on November 6-7.

Overwatch will be available for Windows and Macs. An official launch date has yet to be announced.
