Zork: Grand Inquisitor Cheats & Cheat Codes for PC

Zork: Grand Inquisitor is a 1997 graphic adventure game developed and published by Activision. The game was exclusive to PC initially, although it later made its way to Macintosh devices in 2001.

While Zork: Grand Inquisitor was received well by critics, it didn’t sell as well as Activision had hoped. Because of this, it proved to be the final Zork game, despite a sequel being announced at the time of release.

Zork: Grand Inquisitor Premise

Zork: Grand Inquisitor plays like many other point-and-click adventure games. You play from a first-person perspective and can explore 360-degree environments, looking for hints about what you need to do next. Some environments lock you in place, while others give you the freedom to look around. Using your cursor, you must select various items, picking them up and finding use for them elsewhere.

What is interesting about this title, is that it has a true fail state. You can do things wrong, and it will cause the game to end. This gives a real sense of consequence to your actions, and really makes you think about everything that you’re doing throughout.

The Zork series has always prided itself on its deep lore, with engaging characters. This particular title, with its use of full-motion video, brings you closer than ever to the characters, with them being portrayed by a real actor.

Because of the nature of the plot, with its many important characters, there are simply too many to go into detail about them all. However, we can tell you everyone you need to know if you’re considering playing Zork: Grand Inquisitor for the first time.

Zork: Grand Inquisitor Titles in the Series

The Zork series began life as text adventure games, before adapting to the rapid changes in technology in the later years. Originally developed by Infocom, Activision took over the company, and subsequently, the franchise.

Nowadays, Zork is a relic of a bygone era of gaming, and a somewhat forgotten name. In fact, most players will likely only be familiar with the games as an Easter egg in the original Call of Duty: Black Ops. Zork: Grand Inquisitor was ultimately the final mainline game in the series, and we’d be pretty shocked to see that change in the future.

  • Zork I: The Great Underground Empire (1980)
  • Zork II: The Wizard of Frobozz (1981)
  • Zork III: The Dungeon Master (1982)
  • Beyond Zork: The Coconut of Quendor (1987)
  • Zork Zero: The Revenge of Megaboz (1988)
  • Return to Zork (1993)
  • Zork Nemesis: The Forbidden Lands (1996)
  • Zork: The Undiscovered Underground (1997)
  • Zork: Grand Inquisitor (1997)

Zork: Grand Inquisitor Cheat Codes

Zork: Grand Inquisitor doesn’t have cheat codes. At least, not in the way you might be expecting. There aren’t any that can help you get an advantage in-game, although there are a few that will unlock some silly Easter eggs. It’s all good fun, even if they’re not very helpful. They’re still well worth showing you, in case you want to see them for yourself!

  • Type MIKESPANTS at any point in-game, then navigate through the Easter egg screen. You’ll be able to see pictures of the development scene, superimposed into scenes from the game.
  • Type EAT ME in front of the skeleton in the Hades Subway Station. It’ll then do as you command.
  • During the credits, type WHOAMI. This will give you a list of every person who worked on the game, as well as a personalized message from the individual if you click on the name.
  • Type KILLMENOW at any point. It isn’t very helpful, but if you want to die at any point throughout, this code works a treat.

Does Zork: Grand Inquisitor Have Achievements?

Sadly, even the modern Steam release doesn’t feature achievements. It may have proven far too difficult to go back and add them, although no official reason has ever been given. Really, any reason would be all speculation on our part.

Why Are There So Few Cheats for Zork: Grand Inquisitor?

It’s unknown. The nature of the gameplay doesn’t particularly lend itself well to cheats, and the ones that are in the game are the developers working with some pretty tough restrictions to make them work. Because of this, it probably wasn’t worth the time and effort to add any more than is already in there.
