Call Of Duty Black Ops 2 Joins The Microtransaction Crowd

Call Of Duty Black Ops 2 Joins The Microtransaction Crowd

Are microtransactions actually the wave of the future for videogaming? Activision seems to think so, since they will be integrating the controversial mini-purchases into Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

Before you get upset about Activision letting you pay for power, there’s something you should know; these microtransactions are for vanity items only. Activision’s Dam Amrich calls them “either personal customizations or nice little luxury” and assures us that they won’t affect gameplay in any way. Unfortunately, even vanity items can prove problematic in the long run. Perhaps Call of Duty will soon become all about getting the swankiest hat, much like Team Fortress 2 is.

These new microtransactions will include things like weapon camps and targeting reticules. You can also purchase additional Create-A-Class slots at a rate of 160 MS Points each. Anyone wanting to show pride for their heritage can purchase a Flags of the World calling card pack for 80 MS Points. Finally, Nuketown 2025 and multiplayer Zombies will be available as a less-than-micro transaction of 400 MS Points.

These items will be available on the Xbox version of Call of Duty: Black Ops II later this week and will launch for the PS3 and PC at a later date. No word on whether or not these purchases will come to the Wii U version of the game.
