Celebrity DNA to be Used for In-game Character Modeling?*

None

Celebrities are offering samples of their DNA to aid developers in creating incredibly realistic virtual characters. Using a newly developed , digitally genetic process, the DNA code is input into a PC where it is read by a complex program and converted into a digitally rendered replica of the donor.

With a simple drop of blood, superstars such as Eddie Murphy, Britney Spears, Jack Black, and Steve Carell will have their likenesses fully represented in the virtual world. Using a program that is estimated to cost more than a billion dollars, the donor’s genome is decoded and reassembled in the digital world where it can be manipulated by developers. For example, Eddie Murphy’s DNA character will look, walk, talk, and even think like the actor. The developer then gives this DNA creation directions in the form of dialogue, acting, and choreography. This will save precious time and money for the gaming industry, since the star doesn’t have to appear in person to perform voiceovers or movements.

The digital DNA process is incredibly expensive at this juncture. Some bugs need to be worked out, and eventually the process will be streamlined and cost effective. Samples of stars DNA will vary in cost depending on the “Q” rating of the celebrity at that time. Eventually the digital DNA process will be made available for everyone to star as characters in games.

“This is more than just capturing a photo and rendering it on a virtual body,” says co-inventor Werner Von Yeethoven. “This is in essence, a virtual life form. It has the ability to think and take direction. However where acting is concerned, thinking is not such a coveted attribute,” he chuckles. “If celebrities start charging too much for their DNA we can simply acquire some from deceased stars, and bring them back to life, virtually. Of course, these DNA samples will be cultivated with the utmost respect to legal and social protocol. We’re not going to be prowling cemeteries at night with shovels,” Yeethoven laughs.

During the press conference, a handful of guests were invited to have their DNA taken and digitized using this new process. Former CheatCC CEO Arty Hackery was one of the participants. He had this to say:

“My character looked like an ape; a fat, balding, stupid ape. It hardly moved, it didn’t do anything it was told to do, and basically just stood around farting. Obviously this NBA machine is broken, or someone is playing a rotten trick on me. I don’t need more people laughing at me, especially people I don’t know,” Hackery concludes.
