In 2014, Nintendo and Game Freak announced their remake of the massively popular Game Boy Advance Pokemon games, Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire. The remakes closely follow the stories of the original games while providing significant updates to the visuals and performance. With many new mechanics, abilities, and features, the 3DS version of the game makes a strong case for being the best version of the title. Together, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have sold more than 14 million copies as of March 2023.
Pokemon Omega Ruby Premise

Pokemon Omega Ruby is incredibly similar to the original Pokemon Ruby game, with some minor adjustments. Players battle Team Magma, who scheme to use the legendary Pokemon Groudon to dry up the oceans, making more room for humans. Team Magma’s plan would make the world more hostile for all Pokemon and it is up to the player to stop them.
Most of the changes in Pokemon Omega Ruby are strictly functional and mechanical. The game runs on a new engine that is also used for Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, the main games in the sixth generation of the series. Pokemon Omega Ruby also adds a powerful new dynamic to most Pokemon, the mega evolution. In battle, certain Pokemon can activate a mega evolution while holding special items. This feature was first seen in Pokemon X and Pokemon Y and is not a feature in the original Pokemon Ruby game. Some Pokemon evolutions seen in later games after Ruby are included in Pokemon Omega Ruby.
