Pokemon Unbound Cheats & Cheat Codes for GBA Emulators

Pokemon Unbound is a 2016 ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed, created by solo developer Skeli. The game is only playable for those with a Game Boy Advance emulator such as Visual Boy Advance. The game gathers many Pokemon from Gen I to Gen VII in one complete package and uses battle mechanics from Gen VIII. It is a great mix of the best Pokemon has had to offer in recent years in one retro package.

Pokemon Unbound Premise

Pokemon Unbound puts a puzzler twist on the traditional formula.

In Pokemon Unbound, you’re going to find what fans of the series love about the games. You’ll be catching wild Pokemon, testing your skills against other trainers, and collecting every gym badge. What makes Pokemon Unbound unique is its focus on puzzle gameplay, something we don’t see often in the Pokemon franchise. There’s even a difficulty option, for when it gets too tough to decipher for players.

By bringing Mega Evolutions into Pokemon Unbound, you’re getting a Generation VI battle feature introduced to a 2D for the first time, and it’s interesting to see how they translate to a different art style, too.

Pokemon Unbound Main Characters

Pokemon Unbound offers up a fresh cast of characters.

Unlike many other fan games, Pokemon Unbound doesn’t rely on familiar faces from the wider franchise to tell its story. Instead, it introduces new characters. It’s all too easy to rely on the nostalgia established by the main games, but Pokemon Unbound does well to avoid falling into that trap. Here are some of the characters you’ll meet throughout the adventure.

  • Francis / Fresia: Francis and Fresia are the male and female protagonists of the game. You awaken in the base of the Shadows and are immediately thrust into the main story to stop a nefarious plot that could destroy the Borrius region.
  • The Rival: In Pokemon Unbound, you give your rival their name. They awaken up in the Shadow base alongside you, and you take a Pokemon each to escape together. Afterward, he travels all of Borrius just like you, on a mission of his own to discover what happened to his missing parents.
  • Zeph: Zeph is the leader of the Shadows and the overall antagonist of Pokemon Unbound. His plot threatens all of Borrius, for which he shows very little concern. He’s not the most hands-on leader, instead deferring much of the dirty work to his loyal minions.

Pokemon Unbound Titles in the Series

Even if Pokemon Unbound isn’t an official title, it certainly feels like one.

The main thing to note about Pokemon Unbound is that it isn’t an official title in the Pokemon series. It speaks to the popularity of the franchise that fans can’t get enough of this universe, and instead, endeavor to create their own titles.

These fan-made titles often feel like the real deal, and Pokemon Unbound is no exception. Blending a lot of what makes Pokemon great, it comes together to create an authentic experience that never feels out of place. Considering it was made by a single developer, it’s not a bad effort at all.

For context, here’s the full list of Pokemon games that Unbound has to live up to:

Pokemon Unbound Cheat Codes

There’s an abundance of cheats for Pokemon Unbound.

One of the best things about playing Pokemon games on an emulator is that many of the Action Replay and GameShark cheats work – no cartridge required. This doesn’t just stand for official games, either. ROM hacks like Pokemon Unbound see the same benefit. This means that there is a massive amount of cheats for Pokemon Unbound that you can use to change the game in various useful and interesting ways. You can enter these via the Cheats section of your emulator, regardless of which one you choose to use. Beware though – using too many of these at one time can cause issues with the stability of your save game, and no one wants that!

Here’s the full list that you need to know while playing:

Can I Use Pokemon Unbound Cheat Codes on Game Boy Advance?

Sadly, there’s no way to play Pokemon Unbound on an official Game Boy Advance. Instead, you’ll need to use an emulator like Visual Boy Advance to play the game and use cheat codes.

Even if there was a way to play Pokemon Unbound on Game Boy Advance, it’s unlikely that cheat cartridges like GameShark or Action Replay would offer cheats for the ROM hack.

Where Do You Enter Pokemon Unbound Cheat Codes?

Every Game Boy Advance emulator has a dedicated Cheats section where you can enter the cheat codes. While inputting them usually works straight away, some of them have a master code that you’ll need before using the main code, so make sure you look out for that.
